0. Make sure the following PERL modules are available on your system
   - Getopt::Std
   - Getopt::Long
   - Net::Ping
   - Net::FTP
   - Net::HTTP
   - Net::SMTP
   - Net::POP3
   - Net::NNTP
   - Net::Syslog
   - Digest::MD5
   - Term::ANSIColor
   - Term::Cap
   - Term::ReadKey

1. Edit the configuration file : upscan.conf
   - use # to comment out a line
   - running options : 
      o interactive = provides a GUI
      o syslog      = send syslog messages when an event is detected
      o mail        = send an e-mail         "      "      "      "
   - the rest should be self-explanatory
